3 Last-Minute Valentine’s Candy Makeover Ideas
Today I have 3 last-minute Valentine’s candy makeover ideas for you. Candy is just as synonymous with Valentine's Day as flowers are. But by adding just a little bit of of paper and creativity, you can elevate those gifts of candy and make them even more personal and heartfelt. And it doesn’t need to take a lot of time either!
My first idea for you is to elevate those boxes of classic Brach’s Conversation Hearts. I first created these cuties with my son and daughter in mind. One loves cats and the other dogs. And Stampin’ Up! has an absolutely adorable new set called Cutest Crew that will be released on March 3rd that has both. It’s a must-have in my opinion!
This is a quick & easy project that can easily be mass produced if you wanted to use it for a class exchange. But it’s also perfect for that special someone. You can make the design as simple or as elaborate as you want.
Idea #2 is to create a decorative tray of Valentine Reeses or Hershey Kisses. I created this project using some cellophane bags I had purchased years ago from Amazon. You can easily adapt this idea using different sized bags—even snack sized Ziploc bags could work!
If you end up using the bag size I did, here are the measurements you’ll want to use to recreate these projects:
2” x 7” (scored at 1/2” from each side of the 2” side) for the Kisses
2-3/8” x 7” (scored at 1/2” from each side of the 2-3/8” side) for the Reese’s
2” x 7” base that the tray is adhered to
3” x 6” (scored at 3”) for the topper
A few notes on how I did my trays…first I used an embossing folder for the 2” x 7” strip that the tray is adhered to. I liked that it gave it a little extra something. I folded the 3” x 6” cardstock over the extra cellophane bag and stapled in the center of each side—far enough in that I could cover the staples up with my paper layering. You could also choose to use ribbon to seal it up instead of staples. But staples are quick!
Want an even simpler idea for packaging Hershey Kisses or Reese’s Hearts? Simply put a bunch of them in a cellophane bag (any size) or a Ziploc bag and tie it closed with a handmade tag attached. You’ll receive instant points for the handmade touch!
Idea #3 is a little bit of an upcycling idea. This is a project I’ve done numerous times for a variety of holidays and celebrations. Usually I make it out of cardstock, but for something different I tried creating it out of an empty toilet paper tube. It gives it a little extra sturdiness and stability. And the nice thing is the supplies are all easy to come by.
You’ll start by wrapping some tissue paper around the tube to cover it. It doesn’t matter if the tissue paper is crinkled because that adds some nice texture! I glued mine to the inside of the tube so that the edges had a nice finished look to them.
After you have the outside of the tube covered with tissue paper, you’ll then flatten the edges of one end of the tube and glue them together.
Then you’ll flatten the edges of the other end in the opposite direction and using a hole punch, punch two holes. Add candy or other surprise inside the pouch and then tie it closed with the ribbon.
You can add additional decorating details to your Valentine’s Pouch or you can keep it simple and clean like my sample. It’s entirely up to you!
All 3 of these ideas are so simple to do and take very little time. But the nice thing is they add that extra personal touch making them feel even more special for the recipient. Which of these 3 last-minute Valentine’s candy makeover ideas are you likely to try?
