Monthly Creative Challenges

Did you know that Stampin’ Up! offers monthly creative challenges? This month it’s a color combination challenge. I love the look of these colors together! I’m not sure I would have thought to combine them on my own. But aren’t the rich hues a perfect balance to the softer summer tones?

I chose to use strips of these colors of cardstock to create my card. It shows how you don’t need a lot of something to have it make a big impact. Each of these strips are only 1/4” wide!

I used the dies from the Pop-up Petals to create my silhouette for my focal point on the stripes. I then used the Banner Sayings Stamp Set to add my sentiment. If you’ve overlooked this set, you are missing out! It’s a great variety of sentiments with great fonts. I love sentiments that blend fonts. And this set does that beautifully!

Plus, there’s a coordinating punch that gives you 3 options of banner shapes that fit the sentiments perfectly. It doesn’t get any better than this, right?!

Want an easy way to add small elements like the stripes in my card? Grab Stampin’ Up!’s Adhesive Sheets! These sheets are double sided adhesive. I use them when I’m using small or intricate die. I’ll apply the one side to the cardstock before I do my die-cutting. Then I simply remove the second adhesive backing to expose the other side of the adhesive so that I can easily adhere it. I used this same concept with my card. I applied a piece of the Adhesive Sheet to the 2-1/2” x 3-7/8” center panel of cardstock, removed the adhesive backing to expose the adhesive and then added my strips of cardstock. I started at the bottom and slowly worked my way to the top, ensuring each new strip was flush up against the previous one. It made the process quick and easy!

This was a great color combination. I really do love the look of it all together. I hope you’ll give it a try, too. Remember even if you don’t have the exact colors in your stash, it’s okay to improvise and use what you have! It’s all about using your supplies and playing along with other crafters in these monthly creative challenges.
