Halloween is a little less than 2 weeks away…are you ready for it?! Today I thought I’d share a really quick and easy Halloween project idea. It’s a Halloween gift bag created with Close To My Heart’s Cats & Bats Collection.
I found some cute little gift bags in black and orange at Michaels and thought they’d be the perfect base for some Halloween gift bags–they just needed a little sprucing up!
I grabbed my Cats & Bats Cardmaking Stamp Set along with the coordinating Thin Cuts dies to get started. I inked up half of the “Halloween” sentiment in Black ink and then flipped my stamp over 180 degrees and inked up the other half in Goldrush ink. I stamped this on some scratch White Daisy cardstock and then cut it out with the coordinating die. Such a great look with the 2 colors! Finally, I sponged some Black ink around the edges with a Sponge Dauber to give it a little more definition.
Next, I cut out a large circle in Goldrush cardstock and then using the cat die, cut out the image at the base of the circle (you want it to cover 95% of the circle so it creates a silhouette in front of the moon look.)
I glued the die cut circle to the center of the bag and then using 3-D Foam Dots, I attached the Halloween sentiment across the top of it. To finish it all off, I tied a small bow with our Black & Gold Ribbon from one of the handles.

This month Close To My Heart is trying to give more to Operation Smile–the organization they’ve supported for nearly a decade. In fact, just this weekend while I was at a scrapbooking retreat hosted by Close To My Heart, we raised nearly $10,000 through an auction. It was enough to save a mission to Mexico to perform surgeries that was in jeopardy of being cancelled due to lack of funds. It’s an amazing thing to know that so many children and their parents lives will be improved because of these small actions that together make a big impact.
I was super excited when CTMH announced they were going to be offering a limited-edition die set to coordinate with their Operation Smile Punny Pals Stamp Set. No more fussy cutting–yay! But–it’s only available during the month of October AND it’s only available while supplies last!
I decided to use the Punny Pals Stamp Set along with the coordinating dies to create a couple of Halloween-“ish” boxes.
I used a fun and simple technique of creating my own patterned paper simply by using some Alcohol Markers to color in the lines in between the black stripes. For one, I did traditional colors (Marigold and Lavender Shin Han Markers) and for the other, I went for the trendy whimsical colors this season (Marigold, Lavender, Turquoise Blue and Tender Pink.)
This is a great month to support Operation Smile through purchasing some great CTMH products. You could get the Punny Pals Stamp Set, the coordinating Punny Pals Thin Cuts dies, the Share a Smile Card Kit, a t-shirt or even do a direct donation to Operation Smile.
Giving someone the ability to live their lives like so many of us do–without any of the difficulties that having a cleft lip or cleft palate can bring–is a very powerful gift to give. Help us change someone’s life this month!
As promised, here is another fun project using the Cats & Bats Scrapbooking Stamp Set + Thin Cuts dies. This Booo Box Card is not only a card but a fun treat, too!
I had a lot of fun using both CTMH’s *NEW* Silver Foil Paper and Vellum Paper. Each had a great effect when I embossed on them. I chose to do a White Embossing for the spider web on the Vellum Paper and then I trimmed it up and selectively used a Glue Dot behind where I was going to place the spider (which I trimmed up after cutting out with the die.) I added a little Cats & Bats Black Dot to create more dimension for the body of the spider–love it!
For the Booo sentiment, I stamped in Black pigment ink and then used the Clear Embossing Powder. Instead of tapping away the excess powder, I left it and totally LOVE the look it achieved on the Foil Paper. It’s sort of all bubbly and crackly looking which ties in beautifully with the design of the stamped image.
Also, check out how cute the bat looks–I used googley eyes on him. I always love the look that achieves; makes it a cute but spooky bat! 🙂
Finally, I followed the design of the outside in the inside for consistency. I also couldn’t resist stamping the “Sugar High” sentiment from this set as it totally was spot on with the box of candy corn that’s attached!
This super fun card design is one we will be creating at our Holiday Extravaganza next weekend. If you’re interested, you can sign up to get your very own kit of all 8 projects we’ll be creating. Plus, it’ll be shipped directly to you complete with pictures and step-by-step instructions. How fun, right? To get your Holiday Extravaganza Kit, click HERE.
Today’s card is a fun one. It has just the right amount of technique to it as well as simplicity in it’s design. This particular card is one I received from Jamie B. in our holiday card swap.
I love that she embossed the spider webs. It gives it so much more dimension while still being subtle since it is tone on tone.

This month Close To My Heart is doing some AMAZING things to support Operation Smile.
The last few years (actually nearly a decade!) Close To My Heart has offered an exclusive stamp set to support this wonderful organization. With the purchase of each of these stamp sets, $7 is given to help fund surgeries to correct cleft palate and cleft lip. This year’s set is called Punny Pals. Isn’t it super adorable?!?
During the month of October, Close To My Heart is offering the following:
- Punny Pals Thin Cuts dies—only for this month! These coordinate beautifully with the Punny Pals Stamp Set. Say good-bye to fussy cutting for this darling set!
- CTMH will match all rounding up on orders up to $10,000. It’s such a simple thing. Say your total comes to $36.55, round up to the next dollar amount and donate that $0.45 to Operation Smile. This is something you can do anytime you place a Close To My Heart order. Easy and a little really does help a lot!
- A special card kit just for this month called Share a Smile Card Kit. Be able to create 32 incredibly cute 3″ x 3″ cards with this fun card kit. You receive the Punny Pals Thin Cuts, 32 card bases and envelopes along with 10 sheets of cardstock (including beautiful gold glitter paper!) The Punny Pals Stamp Set is sold separately.
In addition to these wonderful special offers just for October, Close To My Heart also introduced *NEW* Operation Smile T-shirts.
These t-shirts are available all year long. Plus, $10 is donated to Operation Smile with the purchase of each of these t-shirts.

Halloween isn’t here yet, but you’re sure to find Christmas decorations and crafting supplies already in the stores. So how would you feel about some Christmas Tunes? Maybe a Christmas Tunes Stamp Set from Close To My Heart?
You guessed it! This month’s Close To My Heart Stamp of the Month is called Christmas Tunes.
The only thing you’ll love more than these stylized sentiments is getting this stamp set for only $5! That’s right, $5. That’s a savings of $12.95.
To get your $5 Christmas Tunes Stamp Set, simply place an order of $50 or more on my ONLINE CTMH STORE.
Since it is the final few days to order Close To My Heart’s From the Heart Slider Card Kit, I thought I’d share another sample card I created with this kit.
This time I used the newly released Stronger Together Stamp Set that helps support disaster relief; all proceeds from this stamp set go directly to the Red Cross.
To tie the sentiments into the beautiful gold foil slider card bases, I decided to wet emboss both the outside sentiment and inside sentiment in gold, too.
I added in a splash of our Color of the Year–Bashful–but otherwise kept it all to the gold foil and white color palette.
I even used our Gold Shimmer Brush to add sparkle to the White Daisy Pennant Banner behind the heart. So super quick and easy!
